Browsing

Okay, guys. I’ve been scouring the web for looks to include in this article for no less than three hours, so you better get ready to swoon hard for these styles. While the focus of fashion month is definitely on the runway shows and the trends they birth, the streetstyle of the shows’ most fashionable attendees can yield a ton of amazing styling ideas that we can all learn from.

I went through and found my favorite looks from each leg of fashion month, then organized them into different trends I would like to try with my own style. Hopefully, you’ll find as much joy and inspiration from them as I did! Check out my picks below:

Monochrome Rainbow

The comforting uniformity of monochrome has always appealed to me, and this season people have added their own flavor and seasoning in the form of creating monochrome looks with different shades of the same color. You still get the same, stimulating effect, with a bit more fun and detail.

Gorgeous In Green

Green has usurped the throne from millennial pink to become the IT color of fashionable people everywhere, and there were plenty of looks gilded in green to make me wish I had more of the lush shade in my wardrobe.

Sleeves Fit For Shakespeare

Statement sleeves are a favorite of mine, so any style that employs a sleeve that steals the show is a winning look in my book. Whether it’s pirate-inspired puff sleeves, voluminous ruffles, or fanciful fur- I can’t get enough of a sleeve that demands attention.

Fringy Fun

This one is pretty self explanatory. Fringe is a foolproof way to add some fun to any outfit, and these streetstyle looks add some modern flair to this age-old trend by adding it in unexpected places, like a plaid blazer.

Delicate Ruffles & Pleats

Give me some ruffles and pleats and my life is complete, so I’m really excited to see that copious amounts of these delicate, girly details were everywhere in streetstyle looks this season. Trust me, if I could dress like a doll every day, I would.

Unexpected Denim

Denim is another one of my favorite elements to add to my wardrobe because it’s so dang versatile, and I’m always delighted to see people utilize it in new ways, like in a voluminous midi skirt that looks like it’s made of old jeans, or a statement outfit made of dark, denim ruffles.

Cute Collars

Add a cute, eye-catching collar to anything and I’m sold. I especially love all of the vintage, prairie-inspired looks that have been a continuing trend in recent years (thanks Batsheva!). There is just something so whimsical and adorable about a good collar that I just can’t pass up.

New School Prep

We can all conjure up the image of “preppy” style in our minds- pleated skirts, headbands, blazers, and plenty of plaid. This season saw plenty of preppy people stalking the streets in updated looks that added edgy details like a metallic jacket, thick gold chain necklace, and structured, over-exaggerated hips, to the normally-tame trend.

Precious Pastels

I love any color that makes my heart warm, and there were plenty of looks featuring soft, pastel shades that are absolutely perfect for spring. Bonus points if you pair multiple pastels for an extra-adorable style.

Which was your favorite look? Would you ever try any of these trends with your own style? My only wish is that I had more money, so that I could incorporate more of these dreamy trends into my own wardrobe.

You already know that I’m here for any collection that even mildly scratches my fantasy itch, so when I stumbled across the Bora Aksu Fall 2019 collection via stylist Leith Clark’s instagram, I was instantly smitten. I imagined these light, dainty gowns with translucent, ruffled layers and iridescent sparkle adrift in the ocean like ethereal jellyfish, or the nightgowns of sleepy mermaids.

Things I adore about this collection: the fluid, flowing silhouettes; the pale, extra-terrestrial pinks and blues; the glittery, essence of girlhood whimsy and dreams made reality; the over-the-knee moon boots; the way it makes me imagine that there are some ultra-cool, alien girls rocking their way through the universe in Aksu’s confectionery clothes. Things I hate about this collection: that more people haven’t seen it. In other words, I’m in love.

The best thing about this collection is that, although it is playful and whimsical, with its dreamy, out-of-this world vibes (I’m so here for those silver sunglasses that resemble alien eyes), it’s also superbly wearable if you strip away the fantastical styling. A sequined blazer can be worn as a statement piece with jeans and a tee, while an aqua blue, ruffled cocktail dress would be adorable as a fun, daytime look paired with some shimmery sandals and a tiny, cross-body bag (a girl can dream!). I loved every look in this collection so much, I can’t even choose a favorite.

I can only hope that the world (and American Vogue) will pay closer attention next time Bora Aksu releases another collection to make our bleak, human days a little more alien.

I can’t believe we’re already blazing through the Fall 2019 fashion season… time is definitely moving much too fast, and I don’t know how to deal with it! But it also means I have the pleasure of once again blessing my eyes with Ryan Lo’s gorgeous, fantastical designs that make me fall in love with fashion and everything it stands for all over again (thank you!).

For this Fall 2019 ready-to-wear collection, Lo once again gifts us a collection rife with romance, femininity, Victorian frills, and plenty of adorable details, including pink, floral, jacquard prints, wispy knits peppered with floaty mohair, and plenty of feathers and bows to make everything appropriately dreamy. Lo apparently cited Rune Naito, a Japanese illustrator credited as the “root of kawaii” as a big inspiration for the collection, which definitely has that rose-colored, innocent, anime charm to it.

Rune Naito, a Japanese illustrator credited as being the “root of kawaii,” was a major inspiration for Ryan Lo’s Fall 2019 collection, which recently showed at London Fashion Week.

What Ryan Lo’s collections always seem to do best is create an alternate reality for us where everyone is the star of their own romantic comedy that ends in them finding their perfect match and living out the rest of eternity in love, or falling in love. And there’s nothing wrong with that. As with any art form, fashion should offer that element of fantasy and escape that allows our minds to create another world and existence and fall into it, even if only for a few minutes. That being said, none of the pieces shown would be unwearable in any capacity, making the entire show even more admirable, because Lo was able to create luscious clothing to induce widespread swooning, that would also be great additions to anyone’s wardrobe.

A few of my favorite details from this collection include the over-the-top, fuzzy earmuffs that created such an angelic, vintage look, and his loose, fur-adorned knits that he’s created for his last few collections (a signature?). But really, anything pink and lacy and vintage-inspired will win me over, which is why brands like Ryan Lo, Rodarte, and Vivetta always manage to grab my attention, no matter what they send down the runway.

There are very few shows I see that make me think “wow, I need to write about that NOW.” But as soon as I saw the first look with the golden “broom” and whimsical, oversized witch hat, I was hooked.

The girl gets the classic fairy tale ending with the last look in the show, in which the show’s bride is escorted down the runway by her very own knight in shining armor- WOW! (Photo: vogue.com)

I’ve been following Ryan Lo since 2014, when I stumbled across another one of his sugary, pink, fluffy and downright adorable collections. And, although I haven’t seen his last few collections (oops), I can confidently say that he’s only gotten better with time.

In his newest collection, Ryan Lo tackled the classic story of love… and witches. A magical combination of pastel princesses, knights and vibrant, cone-capped witches slowly made their way down the runway, giving onlookers enough time to appreciate each look in all their glorious, saccharine-sweet details.

We were treated to flowing gowns in retro-inspired floral prints, decadent loose-knit tops, dreamy hats and plenty of ruffles, bows, scallops and sheer layers to go around. Each dress was paired with a pair of boots or a pair of girly pumps with socks- eschewing the overwhelming trend in the past few seasons of pairing dresses with sneakers.

For Lo, and his aptly named “Saturn Returns” collection, it was all about love and happy endings. In fact, the bride (the last look of the show) was escorted down the runway by a literal knight in shining armor- what could be more romantic and dreamy than that? This collection, in all of its fantastical glory, succeeded in giving us all the happy ending we desired- one in which we can revel in collections like this and dream of a life where we might wear these very dresses and find our own knights in shining armor.
