If you dug deep enough into any fashion lover’s past you would probably find the one designer that started them on the path to total fashion addiction. Maybe they don’t even realize who it is right away, but if you ask me, I can give a definitive answer almost immediately- Alexander McQueen.

I didn’t always stay up to ungodly hours in the morning clicking through runway show after runway show, saving my favorite looks for inspiration. I also didn’t always voraciously tear through any fashion magazine I could get, looking for material to create elaborate collages to memorialize my favorite trends, models, brands, and editorial photo shoots. I didn’t always construct elaborate fantasies and compelling characters from the simple combination of garments.

I used to just be in love with the idea of clothes and putting them together in ways that made me look good, but everything changed when I discovered McQueen. I started to love the idea of clothing and fashion as an art form, the idea that entire stories can be weaved into every fiber of a piece of clothing. Because of McQueen, the entire world of fashion opened up to me and my mere interest in looking good for school transformed into what I want to spend my life doing.

McQueen made clothing for the sake of art. “Things rot. . . . I used flowers because they die. My mood was darkly romantic at the time.” -McQueen for Harper’s Bazaar, 2007. (GIF Source: dailydot.com)

In my honest and obviously biased opinion, Alexander McQueen is one of the greatest designers of this generation because he went beyond the purpose of fashion, to sell clothing, and made his shows into art exhibitions and works of living, breathing poetry.

As Jaden Trahan, my boyfriend and also an avid fan of McQueen, states, “Alexander McQueen was never like ‘I’m going to sell so many of these dresses made entirely of flowers.’ No. He wanted to bare his soul in that one dress.”

I think what I’ve always loved the most about McQueen’s clothing and his shows is the fact that they tell stories. Each piece sent down the runway clearly has a character in mind and I can’t help but feel transported into a world of fantasy when viewing everything.

“It’s pretty much an objective fact that [McQueen’s] pieces are art,” Jaden said. “His pieces transcend generations and trends. A hundred years from now, people will still think it’s beautiful and that it’s art.”

Jaden and I aren’t the only ones to think that McQueen’s work functioned as art, as many of his works were displayed in an exhibition entitled “Savage Beauty” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City in 2011.

Of course, being the obsessed fangirl that I am, I HAD to have the book from the exhibition, which Jaden so graciously gifted me. I spent hours flipping through the pages, crying tears of absolute disbelief at how this man transformed fashion from simply the clothes you buy and wear, into masterpieces that held so much meaning. I eagerly showed each image to Jaden, who became an avid McQueen fan overnight.

One of my favorite pieces of McQueen’s work. “It is important to look at death because it is a part of life… It is the end of a cycle—everything has to end. The cycle of life is positive because it gives room for new things.” -McQueen for Drapers magazine, 2010. (Image Source: blog.metmuseum.org , courtesy of Alexander McQueen.)

I was devastated to find out that in 2010, McQueen took his own life. Although he has passed away, his influence and legacy still live on. Sarah Burton, a designer that worked closely with McQueen throughout his career, took on the role of the new head designer and creative director of his line. Throughout the past five years, she has kept the same fantastical romanticism that was present in all of McQueen’s work.

Lee Alexander McQueen and his surviving brand will always hold a spot in my heart as the catalyst that started me on this incredible journey into a passion that I hope to carry for the rest of my life.

I recommend that anyone and everyone should discover some of his work and truly appreciate it as art and not just clothing to be mass produced and marketed the world over. Clothing isn’t just for the practical purpose of wearing- it can be art that tells a compelling story in a way that no other media could, and it’s important to me to help others learn that- so much that it’s one of the central purposes of this site.

Thank you, McQueen- I don’t know what I would do without your gorgeous creations. Rest easy.

Sometimes life isn’t as fun as we would like it to be. That’s just a fact that we all have to face on a pretty regular basis. And it seems like more and more, people suffer from bouts of existential dread and depression- both of which I am no stranger to. And while depression is not something that can simply be cured in an instant (can it even be cured?), there are some things that can help to uplift your spirits and make you feel just a little bit better than before. For me, one of those things is a really cute and comfortable dress, which inspired me in this latest editorial shoot.

Each dress I chose in this shoot is cute, vibrant and comfortable, ensuring maximum joy while wearing them. I even paired them with a comfortable pair of sneakers for a more casual, effortless look- because sometimes when you’re feeling down, it can be hard to do the most simple things, even put on fresh clothes and get out the door. So these outfits not only look fashionable and like you ~care~, they’re also super easy to wear!

Check out my looks below:

Short & Sweet

This adorable denim dress is super short and fun! I love the exaggerated shoulders and loose sleeves! I layered it over a happy, yellow, striped mock neck top and paired it with a super-soft, sleeveless sweater for extra comfort. Some fun, floral sneakers finish off the sweet look.

Dress from Zara, Sweater from Lauren Conrad, Mock Neck Top from Forever21 and Sneakers from Adidas.

Layers of Sun

Yellow is definitely one of the happiest colors that manages to lift my mood anytime I wear it, which is why I absolutely adore this long, sunny, yellow dress! It’s a light, linen material making it a great sundress, but I’ve layered a long-sleeved, ruffled top and a vintage, thrifted, satin scarf to bring it into winter. My favorite pair of platform sneakers is the cherry on top!

Dress from Urban Outfitters, Top from H&M, Scarf is vintage thifted, and Platform Sneakers from Converse.

Positively Pastel

I absolutely adore pastels and soft shades, so of course this long, flowing dress with pastel pink stripes would make it into this editorial! I added a bit more detail to the dress with a lacy, collar necklace, while a fuzzy pink sweatshirt and some minty, green New Balances make this look even sweeter (and super cozy!).

Dress is thrifted from Goodwill, Sweatshirt from PacSun, Necklace from Forever21, and Sneakers from New Balance.

I hope I’ve inspired you to find happiness and small moments of joy in even the simplest and littlest details of your day! Stay tuned for more editorials in the near future!

One of my favorite aspects of fashion is the story behind it. After all, it’s a visual art form just like painting or theater. The stories that can be told and the characters created with a simple combination of pieces of clothing is amazing, and it’s so much fun to image who might wear an outfit when I put it together.

The inspiration for this collection of outfits I styled comes from my deep love of sci-fi and dystopian literature. Sometimes we feel like our world is crashing down around us because our lives aren’t going exactly as we planned, which is why it’s fun to escape into universes where the world IS ending, so we don’t feel so bad anymore. Plus, it’s really interesting to see other artists’ and authors’ ideas on what they think the future may have in store.

Check out the outfits I created, which I paired with short stories to get your imagination flowing:

When the World Is Destroyed By 1000 Nuclear Bombs

The world is a wasteland, the air absolutely un-breathable. You walk through the wastes with two outer layers and a scarf to cover the back of your neck so the relentless sun will give your tired skin a break. You don’t have a gun, but your trusty knife always has your back, and a good pair of boots will always take you where you need to go. In the new world, there is no room for luxuries, you take what you need to survive and you do just that.

When You Live In a Perfect World Where Everyone’s the Same

You wake up to the sound of your television screen telling you it is time to do your morning calisthenics. Every morning the same, you take your ration of “vitamins” and wait for the blonde instructor to start her graceful movements. The girl next to you does the same, blonde hair up in a tight bun. The girl next to her is the same. They assign you colors to differentiate you, yours is blush pink. Your necklace keeps track of you and your bracelet bears your name, so you and the other identical girls in your wing can be told apart. You smile until your cheeks hurt, your arms unfurled, ready for the day to begin.

When the World Is No Longer Habitable, So You’re Travelling the Galaxy to Find a New One

They sent five ships out into the abyss, equipped with enough concentrated rations to last the rest of the crews’ lives. Their only objective was to find somewhere else humans may call home, as Earth is quickly becoming desolate. You dress warmly, carry a gun in the rare case you may find intelligent life that isn’t too fond of you. Your only personal possession you allowed yourself was a bracelet your mother gave you before you left and you never take it off, lest you forget about where you came from. Home.

It took me a surprising amount of time to style these looks and create the images, but it was also a lot of fun! I really want to keep creating these unique looks with fun stories, so keep an eye out for the next one!

It’s freaking 2019 people! And that means award season is once again upon us. While I hold the genuine opinion that awards shows are insufferable in general (they bore me), I usually take a cursory glance at the red carpet looks because fashion or whatever, so I figured I would compile a list of my favorite and least favorite styles of the night just for fun!

Red carpet glamour is supposed to be one of those things that the average person gets to see only but a few times a year, which makes it really special and fun to talk about. HOWEVER- now that I work at a company that makes websites for prom and pageant retailers, a lot of the dresses just look like overpriced prom dresses to me, so the red carpet has lost its appeal, to say the least.

But, enough with all that ~negativity~ – without further ado, let’s take a peep at these looks!

HOTS

Lady Gaga in Valentino Haute Couture and Tiffany & Co

Of course, my number one would be Lady Gaga in her incredible, custom periwinkle (there was some talk of lavender or “lunar blue” but P.P. Piccioli confirmed it is, indeed, periwinkle) Valentino Haute Couture gown. Just look at it! And that diamond necklace! The sleeves! The train! There is nothing I don’t love about this, except for maybe the hair. Anyways, Lady Gaga will always win in my heart!

Leslie Bibb in Schiaparelli

I love this look because it’s so simple- the straight hair styled with the neutral makeup pairs perfectly with the nude, tulle dress with black lace foliage cascading gracefully down. I would wear this to prom if my prom didn’t happen like five years ago!

leslie bibb schiaparelli golden globes red carpet 2019

Allison Janney in Christian Siriano and Roger Vivier

This dress makes Allison Janney look incredible! I love the sleeves and the classicly-draped neckline. She looks like an old Hollywood starlet, but the fresh blue makes it modern.

Allison Janney Christian Siriano and Roger Vivier golden globes 2019 red carpet

Gemma Chan in Valentino and Christian Louboutin

There is something so refreshing and appealing about this bright red lip paired with the rich, deep blue and luxuriously-draped dress paired with shorts under the skirt. She must have been a little chilly though!

Gemma Chan Wearing Valentino and Christian Louboutin golden globes 2019 red carpet fashion

Lucy Boynton in Celine

All that glitters IS gold in this chic look. I think my favorite part is her piecey, platinum bob with that crisp center part. As someone who recently joined the bob club, this look is major inspiration for sure!null

Lucy Boynton Wearing Celine golden globes 2019 red carpet fashion

Saoirse Ronan in Gucci

Sleek, sleek, sleek! Saoirse shimmers in a silver gown from one of my faves. It’s not surprising that she’s on my hot list, though. She always manages to look great at every occasion! null

Indya Moore in Louis Vuitton

This dress is going galactic with its space-age inspiration and styled with the bod, red lip, everything pops! I love seeing stars choose looks that are a little more unconventional for their red carpet struts, and this look definitely has an interesting story to tell!

Laura Dern in Valentino

I’ve already written about how much I like the Valentino Pre-Fall 2019 collection, so I won’t bore you with the details. The red is just so crisp and cutting, and I love the texture of the skirt and sleeves- it’s so decadent that my eyes are lucky they don’t gain 10 pounds just by glancing at it!

Laura Dern Wearing Valentino golden globes 2019 red carpet fashion

Judy Greer in Alberta Ferretti

This look is my entire 2019 mood- power, power, power! I love the proportions of the jacket paired with the pants. It’s definitely a fashionable take on a menswear staple and she looks incredible!

Cody Fern in Maison Margiela

What can be said about Cody Fern that hasn’t already been stated by pretty much everyone else in the world? These are the kinds of champions we need in men’s fashion today. He dismantled the old expectations of the suit with high-waisted pants and a shirt with sheer panels to show some skin. And that hair? Simply fabulous.

NOTS

Amber Heard in Monique Lhuillier

Nothing against Amber Heard, this dress just goes down to such an awkward place and squishes her boobs up in such an unflattering way. Her smile looks gorgeous though!

Amber Heard Wearing Monique Lhuillier golden globes 2019 red carpet fashion

Lili Reinhart in Khyeli and Christian Louboutin

As I said in my intro, I’m not too fond of dresses that look like prom dresses to me, so this poofy, tulle gown just didn’t strike my fancy. I do like the color, though!

Lili Reinhart Wearing Khyeli and Christian Louboutin golden globes 2019 red carpet fashion

Marin Hinkle

I don’t mean to sound rude, but there’s really nothing to like about this dress. The green seems a bit out of place and the gown itself lays in such a way that it looks poorly constructed. But her hair looks amazing!

Marin Hinkle golden globes red carpet fashion 2019

Julianne Moore in Givenchy Haute Couture and Chopard

I freaking love Julianne Moore but this dress looks a bit matronly, especially in the way it fits in such an unflattering way. I do think she looks great in white though, to contrast her vibrant hair!

Julianne Moore Wearing Givenchy Haute Couture and Chopard

Julia Roberts in Stella McCartney and Chopard

Apparently a lot of people liked this look, and that’s all well and good. At the end of the day, I just found it bland, and it didn’t look like something special enough to wear on the red carpet.

Julia Roberts Wearing Stella McCartney and Chopard golden globes 2019 red carpet fashion

Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton

Okay, hear me out. I adore Emma Stone and this look definitely isn’t bad, I just had some qualms with it. It seems like it doesn’t fit her well enough because it’s hanging loosely like a night gown, making it look cheaper than it is. That’s pretty much my only issue though, I love the color and the shimmering embellishments!

Emma Stone Wearing Louis Vuitton golden globes 2019 red carpet fashion

Well, I think that rounds out my list! Is the concept of having “Nots” too mean spirited? I can’t decide. I try to be constructive only in my criticism of the looks and would never attack a woman or her body, only the clothes! Until the next award show, this is Anna signing off!

Thrift, charity, resale, vintage, second-hand, hand-me-downs- no matter what you call it, thrifting is when you acquire something that has been owned and used by somebody before you. For some, this may not seem like the most appealing idea and I, too, held this opinion at some point in my life because I was averse to the smell of thrift stores and often felt like the items were dirty. But, sometime while I was in high school, I changed my tune after discovering a ton of “thrift haul” videos on YouTube (thanks @grav3yardgirl!), which basically just entailed the YouTuber showing off their thrifted finds. I was always so entirely impressed by all of the things these vloggers were able to find, it almost instantly became an obsession of mine, and my wardrobe ballooned in size with all of the pieces I was finding for what I felt like were nickels and dimes.

Being someone who had no money and loved new clothes, my transition into thrifting seemed obvious and inevitable, especially after I realized just how many completely unique and charmingly-fashionable items were really available that people were just throwing away. I’ve acquired so many vintage blouses and quirky sweaters that I would have never been able to find in stores that had a level of quality that I would never be able to match for the price. It has so completely informed my personal style and attitude towards fashion, I can’t imagine finding a bulk of my clothing at regular retailers. In fact, if I’m shopping at a regular store, I often think “I could just thrift something like this,” if I come across something I like that seems too expensive.

Not only is thrifting a great way to find seemingly one-of-a-kind pieces to add dimension and flavor to your wardrobe, it’s also one way you can reduce your environmental impact. Fast fashion retailers like Zara, H&M and Forever21 may be cheap and accessible, but they pollute so much and create a ridiculous amount of waste, not to mention rely on underpaid workers to create their pieces. If you still want a cheaper option for clothing that doesn’t have such an impact, thrifting is an amazing way you can do this- and it doesn’t even have to be at places like Goodwill and Savers, which rely solely on donations, so their stock is not always the best. Resale stores like Plato’s Closet and Buffalo Exchange buy people’s used clothes, so they stock quality pieces that are in line with today’s trends. (I highly recommend Buffalo Exchange! *cough cough* please sponsor me 🙂 )

I didn’t mean for this to be so long-winded! I’m just so passionate about thrifting and want as many people as possible to know how magical and vital it can be!

Check out some looks I created below, which are styled entirely from thrifted finds:

Grungy Gal

This turquoise and purple flannel is honestly one of my favorite layering pieces in the winter- the colors are just so eye-catching! I paired it with a grey mock-neck sweater and denim midi dress, with my Derek Lam platform slides finishing everything off!

Flannel, mock-neck sweater and denim dress are from Goodwill. Derek Lam platforms are from Buffalo Exchange.

Chic in the City

I usually don’t dress this ~chic~ but I wanted to show off this incredible skyline sweater that is my favorite thrift find of all time! I dresses it up with a plaid mini, knee-high socks and some basic black boots.

Sweater and boots are from Goodwill. Plaid skirt is from Buffalo exchange. Socks are from Forever21, unfortunately not thrifted, but who thrifts socks??

Denim Daze

There is literally never a bad time to break out the double denim looks, especially since this oversized denim shirt is one of my favorite layering pieces because it goes with literally everything and will make you look like an effortless cool girl. The shimmering, cropped sweater is a gorgeous vintage piece I couldn’t leave without, so here it is- I thought it would look good with my sparkly party boots (was I right?).

Denim shirt is from Goodwill. Jeans and boots are from Buffalo Exchange. Vintage sweater is from a vintage booth at a city-wide garage sale event in Austin, Texas.

Business Meets Pleasure

So many fun details in this outfit- a blazer covered in pastel motifs, overalls I thrifted from a friend’s closet and customized by cutting the calves open, and a vintage white blouse with a pearl-embellished collar- too fun and so practical! I could definitely wear this to the office and feel like a professional with a fun side!

Blazer from Goodwill. Vintage blouse from Savers. Fanny pack and platforms from Buffalo Exchange. Overalls from a friend.

I would love to see your thrifted looks! Tag me @annkatpip on Instagram and I’ll check them out and give you some love! Stay tuned for my next editorial shoot!

Christmas is right around the corner- like 2 or 3 days away depending on what you consider to be the “real Christmas”- and that means you still have a couple of days left to find the perfect Christmas/New Years outfit to make everyone in your family (even those annoying distant relatives) think “man they look good- they must have their s*** together!”

I’ve dug through the trove of outfit inspiration to end all outfit inspiration- the Fall 2018 couture collections! If you want to make an impression that will last a lifetime, get your pen and paper ready to furiously take some notes. You’re going to need them! Check out some of my favorite trends that would definitely serve you well during the holiday season:

Comfy, Chunky Knits

Winter is knit season, so what better addition to a cozy winter ‘fit than a good sweater? Except, this time, take your idea of a comfy knit and turn up the intensity like 3 or 4 notches. What have you got to lose by going bigger? Chunkier? Bolder?? The answer is nothing, so go for it!

Shimmery, Red Sequins

Your Christmas ornament should be flattered- get it? Because imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Enough with the jokes! Red sequins will add so much festive fun to any look, you’ll feel like a party on legs! Anything with this much shine will also look incredible next to a well-decorated tree, so break out your Kira Kira app and get snapping!

Get Into Green

We’ve given red a shout out, so we thought it would only be fair to do the same for the season’s other most iconic color- green! We’ve already spoken about why green is a huge color this season, but if that isn’t reason enough to get this color into your life, just consider how spirited you will look in green with red accessories!

Sugarplum Pink

The Nutcracker Ballet’s very own Sugarplum Fairy is taking note of these gorgeous gowns. Shimmery, feathery, light, sheer and romantic- these dresses are dreams woven into reality! Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can’t wear a soft, Spring-y shade. You totally should! And look like a total cutie doing it!

Sleek Black

The Little Black Dress has never looked so good. While every woman needs a good LBD, you should have a GREAT one with fun details like a dramatic slit, some funky bows, or a full, cupcake skirt that’s just too fun to pass up. Plus, you can add pretty much any accessory to a black dress, so go nuts and really make it your own!

Oversized, Dramatic Silhouettes

Make sure that when you show up to the Christmas celebration everyone turns and thinks to themselves “She. Has. Arrived.” with a dramatic dress that’s only a little bit extra. Okay, a lot extra. But look at how fun these looks are! It will all be worth it!

Prim Pleats

Posh, pretty, preppy pleats are the perfectway to dress up your holiday outfits- just look at how sharp and shimmery these are! If you want to look like an angel, or a mermaid, then this trend may be just the thing you need and were lucky enough to stumble across!

Even if you didn’t find what you were looking for, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! No matter what you wear to celebrate, you’ll look amazing! What are your plans gearing up for the new year? Let me know in the comments!

If you’re living in the Northern Hemisphere at least one thing is probably obvious to you: It’s December and that means it’s winter around these parts and even if you live in a hot and steamy locale like lovely Texas, and winter might not be as cold as your mental image of a white winter, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t get just a little chilly occasionally (think- those days where you walk outside and you don’t instantly start sweating). And when it’s chilly, layers become an integral part of your style choices because they give you the option to add or subtract warmth as you go, which can be very convenient if you traverse in and out of doors with frequency.

I happen to love fall and winter fashion precisely because of the layering. The more layers, the more possibilities- and one of my favorite things to do is figure out ways to wear my clothes that I’ve never thought of before. I put together a few outfits that make creative use of layering to celebrate the colder weather. Check out my creations below:

Velvet and Faux Fur: A Match Made In Heaven

Velvet is one of the most indulgent materials of the winter season and it pairs so well with the shabby-chic vibe of my thrifted, faux fur jacket. Plus, I layered a sheer, high-collared shirt underneath for an extra layer of detail that really made this fancy look pop.

Festive (?) Black

Are you questioning whether or not black can be festive? This is an interesting question, one that perhaps deserves a separate discussion. For now, check out the way I layered this flowing velvet/satin shirt over a high-collared, vintage Victorian shirt which I thrifted in high school to play an 1800s rich woman on the go at our annual art gallery event. A red plaid jacket, some glittery sock boots and a gold key pin worn directly over the heart finish off this otherwise understated look with festive flair.

Sexier-Than-Normal Librarian

When I first styled this outfit, I was really skeptical that it would actually look good, and to be honest, the jury is still out. I paired my long, thrifted plaid, pleated skirt (honestly a dream find that has been rotting in my closet since high school before I rediscovered it) with a velvet mock-neck top and a funky loose-knit blouse. Some dangling tassel earrings were the finishing touch. Perhaps the best part of the outfit are these cute little block heels- they remind me so much of Barbie shoes that they never fail to make me smile!

Bombshell Ingenue Looking For Love

Honestly, I might have saved the best for last. Just look at how cute this ruffled, green dress is layered over a mock-neck, short-sleeve sweater. And with a black peacoat on top, I look like I belong in a romance novel, searching for love during the loneliest season of the year. Of course I added a white rose to the look, just to drum up drama. Why  not?

If you liked these outfits, thanks! I appreciate it! If they’re not your thing, that’s totally fine because most of the fun of fashion is having different perspectives and learning and collaborating with each other! Stay tuned for even more styled shoots in the near future!

It’s the season of gifting and that means it’s also the season of not knowing what to give anyone! If you’re like me, you have to ask at least five different people for an opinion before you settle on a gift for somebody.

Gifting is stressful! It’s hard to find gifts for people that don’t want or need anything and it’s even harder to know where to start looking because there’s just so much out there! But today you’re in luck because you’ve found this article, presumably because you would like a few ideas on what to gift a fashionable friend or family member.

I crawled the web- all of my favorite sites, and found some trendy accessories I think any fashion-lover would jump at the chance to add to their wardrobes. Check out and shop my picks below:

Everyone needs a good silk scarf in their wardrobe because it’s simply one of the most versatile accessories. I love one that can add a pop of color, like this Gucci one.

Plaid Winter Cap

If you and your friends live in a cold region, there is one thing you all need to get through the winter: a good, warm cap. I fell in love with this one because it doesn’t look like your normal warm hat, but it features ear flaps and an under-chin ribbon to keep it fastened to your head. And the plaid is just so cute!

Expressive Hair Clips

I became totally obsessed with these hair clips from the first time I saw them on the runway- they’re just so bold and fun! If your friends are looking for a daring way to spice up their hair game, then these clips might be just what they’re looking for.

Extreme Cat-Eye Sunglasses

A good pair of sunglasses can make any outfit more chic. Lately eyewear trends have been all over the place, and one of the most prominent trends I’ve noticed is the retro cat eye shape, but over-the-top. Any fan of retro/vintage style will love these!

Millennial pink- that powdery, light, almost-salmon pink that projects a sense of innocence, purity and ironic prettiness- has been all over the runway and in every fashion magazine and blog for the last couple of years. It’s chic, yet playful- polished, yet accessible. Then, what Man Repeller dubbed “Gen Z” yellow came along- a more, bright, fun and laid back shade that gave millennial pink a run for its money.  Now, a new color has arrived that may just dethrone them both and become the new *it* color.

Green- a natural, fresh shade that begets an attitude of renewal and growth- the perfect shade for this generation of movers and shakers. Green has been burning up the runway, and not just any green- a light, lime, almost-neon green, an eye-popping shade that will imbue any ‘fit with a chic trendiness and a streetwear-cool vibe.

All of this to say, you need to get this color in your wardrobe ASAP because it will be the next big shade. Here are some of the best “futura” green (hey, every new trendy shade needs a name, right?) looks seen on the Spring 2019 runways:

If you are in any way connected to the fashion realm, then you’ve probably already heard all about Dolce & Gabbana’s latest blunder with their Great Show planned in Shanghai, China. An enormous fashion show was planned, boasting over 300 models with thousands of Chinese stars and Key Opinion Leaders (their term for influencers) set to attend. Unfortunately for Dolce and Gabbana, the universe had other things in mind.

Leading up to the show, Dolce and Gabbana released a series of three promotional videos on Chinese social media and their Instagram that featured a Chinese model attempting to eat oversized Italian cuisine with chopsticks, all while a male voiceover attempted to tell the model how to eat the food in a very patronizing, and semi-creepy-sexual tone. As you might expect, this did not go over well, as Chinese people took to social media to denounce the videos as racist because they relied wholly on stereotyping and infantilized the model and Chinese people overall by suggesting that they would not know how to eat foreign foods if presented with them.

#DGlovesChina ? More like #DGdesperateforthatChineseRMB lol. In a bid to further appeal to luxury’s covetable Chinese consumers, @dolcegabbana released some hella offensive “instructional” videos on the usage of chopsticks. Pandering at it’s finest, but taken up a notch by painting their target demographic as a tired and false stereotype of a people lacking refinement/culture to understand how to eat foreign foods and an over-the-top embellishment of cliché ambient music, comical pronunciations of foreign names/words, and Chinese subtitles (English added by us), which begs the question—who is this video actually for? It attempts to target China, but instead mocks them with a parodied vision of what modern China is not…a gag for amusement. Dolce & Gabbana have already removed the videos from their Chinese social media channels, but not Instagram. Stefano Gabbana has been on a much-needed social media cleanse (up until November 2nd), so maybe he kept himself busy by meddling with the marketing department for this series. Who wants to bet the XL cannoli “size” innuendos were his idea? Enter Stefano Gabbana- the decidedly filter-less cofounder of the label that has a long history with taking criticism poorly… really poorly. In response to someone letting him know why the campaign was racist, Gabbana responded by saying that China is a “country of s***” and that Chinese people eat dogs. Apparently he didn’t get the memo that blatant racism isn’t good for PR.

In another amateur bad PR move, Gabbana later claimed that those comments were not made by him because his account was hacked, even though, as the much-revered Instagram fashion blog @diet_prada pointed out, Gabbana posted screencaps of the very same Instagram DM conversation on his stories. Mixed messages much?

After enormous outcry and an onslaught of entertaining videos of Chinese influencers destroying their D&G goods in a variety of ways, Dolce and Gabbana’s dreams of holding their “Great Show” died, leaving us with a half-assed apology video and a ton of questions like “Why do we even still put up with them?”

That’s right, folks- the fact that Dolce & Gabbana is problematic isn’t news. The infamous duo (but mostly Stefano Gabbana) has been offending various audiences for years and here are a few of the best (worst) examples:

5 Reasons Why Dolce & Gabbana (But Mostly Gabbana) Are Trash

1. Internalized Homophobia and War On IVF Children

In 2015, Dolce & Gabbana showed their blatant homophobia when they stated that they do not believe that gay people should be able to have and raise children because it went against nature. To make matters worse, they also referred to children conceived via IVF as “synthetic.” Yikes!

Elton John, who had two beautiful sons with his husband through IVF clapped back- “…Shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF – a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children.”

2. #DGHatesNaples

In 2016, Dolce & Gabbana created the #DGLovesNaples campaign, where they photographed a slew of models dressed to the nines in D&G with Naples locals. While the idea seems charming in concept, it was deemed offensive in its execution because it often showed the models photographed with Neopolitans in stereotypical roles like pizza maker or peasant.

When the Neoploitan people pointed out why they didn’t appreciate the campaign, Stefano Gabbana responded in the only way he knew how, by further insulting them, saying he will never visit Naples again and that Neopolitans are “the disgusting of Italy.” The D&G PR department should really consider taking Gabbana’s social media privileges away.

3. Even More Racism

In a recent interview, Stefano Gabbana admitted that after he and Dolce are finished, he does not want a Japanese designer to design for the label. And this comment came soon after the label staged a show in Japan to court the Japanese public. Gabbana really has a terrible track record for showing basic human decency.

4. Body Shaming Lady Gaga

After Lady Gaga’s dynamite halftime performance in 2017, Stefano Gabbana took to social media to criticize her choice in showing her stomach, later retracting his comment and issuing an apology: “I know it’s strange, but finally something real not retouched! The truth, reality. Yesterday I criticized it too, but I thought about it and I was wrong!!!”

While some may credit him for issuing an apology, that doesn’t change the fact that he found the need to comment on Lady Gaga’s stomach to be more important than commenting on her abilities and her outstanding performance- a common issue for women in many industries.

5. Fatphobic Sneakers

How could you go wrong with a pair of sneakers? If anyone could find a way, it’s good ol’ Dolce & Gabbana. They released a pair of sneakers with the phrase ” I’m Thin & Gorgeous” printed on them, something that many people found to be a subtle way of pushing a fatphobic message.

So what did Gabbana do when faced with criticism? You guessed it- he made matters worse with more hateful comments like:

“u think is better to be fat full of hamburger??? Stupid” and

“When idiocy distorts reality!!! incredibile!!!! Next time we’ll write LOVE TO BE FAT AND FULL OF CHOLESTEROL.”

You can’t make this stuff up, folks. If you decide to support Dolce & Gabbana, then that’s your decision, but in my personal opinion, jerks like Gabbana don’t need anybody to stroke their ego. Just let it die.
